Q: We asked a Jay
a variation on the final question asked of our game
reviewers in A
Chat with the Game Critics. Here's the question and
Jay's response:
If you could give them 3
tips that might help their games published, what would
they be?
A: 1) Be
thorough. Do not be content to send your title to the
top 5 publishers in the industry. Take your time and do
your research, send your title to every applicable
publisher available. Getting your game published today
is a game of numbers, the more people you have
evaluating the game, the better your chances for a deal.
2) Be persistent. Follow up with all your packages. You
don't want to lose a publishers mind share if they feel
you are not serious about working with them. Give the
package enough time to arrive and then verify your
contact has the game, answer any questions they may
have, and touch base with them at least once a week to
respond to feedback and check in on the evaluation.
3) Be realistic. Not every game is going to bring in a
$5 million advance. Know the market for your title and
work out win-win scenarios in your dealing with the
publisher. Anything less may jeopardize your current
title's success and the success of titles down the road.
