A CHAT WITH THE GAME CRITICS

GIGnews recruited Melanie Cambron, known by most in the industry as The Game Recruiting Goddess, to use her skills for the good of gamekind and recruit some of the big names in the industry to give us all valuable insight into what they do and how they do it.

In her Interview with the Goddess column, Melanie chats with some of the most well known developers in the game industry. Now, in this interview or, rather, in these interviews, she turns the tables. She asked several of the industry's most established game critics to share their thoughts on games, and hopefully some insight for developers, by answering the following 5 questions:

1) What's the biggest improvement you've seen in game development over the past year?

2) What still needs to be improved?

3) What was the best "sleeper" game of the past year and what made it stand out?

4) Who, in your opinion, are consistently the best game developers and what makes them so?

5) If you could give game developers 3 tips that might help their games receive more critical-acclaim, what would they be?

The participating reviewers provide an excellent cross-section and their responses were thoughtful, thorough, and whether you agree or disagree they definitely make for some interesting reading.

Interview insights (in alphabetical order) from Richard Aihoshi, Wagner James Au, Jim "Ripclaw" Broach, Eric Butcher, Steven "Westlake" Carter, Victor Godinez, Tricia "Kazi Wren" Harris, Dave "Fargo" Kosak, Phil LaRose, and Chuck Osborn start here:
